My Greatest Achievement: A Week Without Work
The company kept working, the clients were happy, and the laptop stayed shut. For me, that was a real milestone.
A reason to celebrate — I have just achieved the greatest professional milestone of my life! What is it? I have spent a whole week here without doing a gram of work. I have not even opened my laptop! WOW, right?! :D
Yes, yes, I am probably not the first person to manage an “achievement” like this. :D But for me it truly is a major milestone, because over the past year I have worked hard to delegate more and more inside the company — while actually increasing client satisfaction.
How did I get there? I had to let go of my inner need to keep taking on more work. Why? I had felt worthless all my life, and “results” helped fill that hole. An illusion, of course. This year I have often asked myself consciously: how would I act in this situation if I did not feel worthless? What if I were already valuable, already enough? Because I am. So are you. Already, right now.
Second, I had to acquire an extremely difficult skill: saying what I think. :) I had almost never done that in my life. My need for other people’s approval was so strong that I often did things I did not want to do. I also left most of my wishes unspoken, “because people will like me less if I ask them for things…”
I had to learn to live sincerely and honestly. If there is a wish in my head, I HAVE TO say it aloud. Other people are not mind readers, and by staying silent I get a slightly worse life every time. Pile those moments up and life is no longer slightly worse, but genuinely worse. :)
The same is true at the other end: when I do something I dislike, it becomes a small burden. When there are many such things, the burden grows enormous.
This sincere life is rather lovely. :D The load is much lighter, and many wishes have been fulfilled for the first time ever. Brilliant!
Wishing you a sincere life,
Tauri
